Best Internet for RV and Tiny House

The best internet choice starts with where you live: does your tiny house stay at one address, or do you take your connection from campsite to campsite?

For a stationary tiny house, start by comparing wired internet and fixed wireless available at the property. For a traveling RV, start with cellular service that permits mobile use, then consider Starlink Roam when your destinations make satellite service useful. A router you can carry does not automatically come with a plan you can use anywhere.

This guide covers U.S. service choices. It is based on provider documentation, not hands-on testing. Prices below were checked September 10, 2026; address eligibility, offers and terms can change.

Check the property before buying portable equipment

Ask local wired and fixed-wireless providers whether they can serve the tiny house itself. An address appearing in a coverage checker is a starting point; ask about installation distance, equipment location and any work needed to reach the dwelling. On rented land or in a community, confirm who can authorize installation.

Compare the provider’s Broadband Facts label and written quote: monthly price after promotions, upload performance, data policy, equipment and installation charges, and cancellation terms. This gives you a more useful comparison than an advertised maximum download speed alone.

Home cellular service has different rules from travel service

For example, T-Mobile restricts its Rely, Amplified and All-In Home Internet plans to the approved address. Its AWAY travel service has a different purpose. Do not choose a residential plan on the assumption that moving its gateway between campsites is permitted. T-Mobile eligibility and location rules.

Consider Starlink Residential where local options fall short

Starlink Residential is for a registered, fixed land-based location; it does not support roaming or in-motion use. Residential plan rules.

The U.S. page currently advertises Residential 100 Mbps from $55/month, 200 Mbps from $85/month, and Max from $130/month. Availability and hardware offers vary by location. Hughesnet and Viasat need a different comparison

Treat these residential services as fixed-site possibilities, not recommendations for traveling between campsites. Hughesnet describes professional dish installation at the residence; Viasat’s moving process includes arranging installation at the new address. Hughesnet FAQ, Viasat moving guidance.

For video calls or other delay-sensitive work, examine the particular plan carefully. Hughesnet says its satellite-only plans are not recommended for time-sensitive applications. Its Fusion service combines satellite and wireless service and is available only in selected areas. Do not assume every satellite plan has the same latency or that every address qualifies for Fusion. Internet for a traveling RV

Try your existing phone hotspot first

If your phone plan permits tethering, test it with your laptop before buying another device. Check the separate hotspot allowance and what happens when it runs out. An unlimited phone-data plan is not proof of unlimited full-speed hotspot data.

A dedicated hotspot can let you keep the internet connection separate from your phone. It still needs an eligible data plan and usable cellular service. Verify the exact device with the carrier before buying it, including SIM or eSIM support and activation eligibility. Verizon hotspot requirements.

Compare mobile plans, including the conditions behind the price

Verizon’s Premium hotspot plan currently includes 150GB of premium data. Its advertised starting price is $60/month with an eligible existing smartphone plan and discount; a standalone first hotspot line is $110/month, plus taxes and fees. After 150GB, speeds are capped at up to 3 Mbps on 5G Ultra Wideband or 600 Kbps on 5G/4G LTE for the rest of the billing cycle. Your usable connection after the allowance therefore depends on the network available at your stop. Verizon plan details.

T-Mobile AWAY requires an eligible physical address to activate, then permits travel on its network without off-network roaming. It is not intended for extended use at one location. Current prices are $110/month for 200GB or $160/month for Unlimited with bank-account or debit-card AutoPay; otherwise, add $10/month. A $35 connection charge and account-dependent taxes/fees can apply.

The supplied gateway must be returned undamaged when required to avoid a charge of up to $370. After the 200GB allowance, speeds fall to up to 128 Kbps—too limited to rely on for normal video calls or streaming. Congestion can reduce speeds on either plan. T-Mobile AWAY plans and terms.

Carrier coverage at your stops matters more than which logo is on the device. Test actual work calls, uploads and evening use during the applicable trial or return period. Read the return conditions before ordering.

Consider Starlink Roam for suitable remote stops

The current U.S. starting service prices are $55/month for Roam 100GB, $80/month for 300GB, and $175/month for Unlimited. Budget separately for the equipment offer and any mounting or power accessories you need. Starlink Mini includes a router and is designed for portability. Starlink U.S. Roam.

The capped plans continue with low-speed data after their allowance. Starlink describes this as suitable for basic email, calls and texts, with streaming, large downloads and video calls limited. Do not budget as though that fallback replaces your high-speed allowance. Starlink Roam plan details.

A wooded campsite may be a poor fit. Check the intended setup location with Starlink’s obstruction guidance before relying on satellite service. A clear view of the sky matters as satellites move overhead. Starlink obstruction check.

Using internet after parking and using it while driving are separate requirements. Starlink says Roam supports in-motion use in selected areas; verify your kit, mounting method and current geographic rules before planning that use. Buy equipment to solve a measured problem

A hotspot, cellular booster and Wi-Fi router do different jobs. Avoid buying a list of accessories before you know which part of your connection needs help.

A cellular booster needs a detectable outside cell signal to amplify. It cannot create service where none exists. That is why a booster is not a universal answer to remote coverage. weBoost explanation.

For a dedicated hotspot, compare current carrier-supported devices against your needs: Ethernet, antenna connections, power supply, and permitted operating temperatures. Include internet equipment in your off-grid power budget. For example, a measured 30W load running eight hours uses 240Wh before conversion losses. A practical plan before you order

  1. Write down whether you need one-address service, travel between sites, or in-motion use.
  2. Check address eligibility or coverage at your expected stops. For satellite, check the sky view too.
  3. Estimate your monthly data use from existing device or account records, including streaming, updates and cloud backups.
  4. Compare the full first-year cost: equipment, installation, service after promotions, taxes/fees and any backup plan.
  5. Confirm the return deadline, cancellation rules and what happens after the data allowance.
  6. Test the tasks you actually depend on. If work requires a backup, test switching to it before an important call.

Start with the simplest connection that meets those checks. Add equipment or a second service only when it solves a specific limitation you have identified.
